Covid Tests Mar 14

Up fairly early and after a quick breakfast, headed out for the Square Hospital where we were getting our tests done. We went by CNG which is like an easy bike but is gas peered rather than battery operated. Never ceases to amaze me how they can possibly drive the way they do and it actually all works. We didn’t see one accident the whole time we were in the country. But if you would put Americans driving in those conditions....ummm.... no way it would work. Neither did I ever see one working traffic light or any stop signs whatsoever. They wouldn’t have used them if they would have been there. Testing went ok other than it just takes so long to do anything here. So much paperwork and then that all gets entered into the computer and the people for the most part are not skilled in typing. At least not here they aren’t. So it just takes so much time. We got there about 8:15 and left around 10:30. Here it’s a nasal swab in one nostril and then a throat swab. Wasn’t the most comfortable test I have had done, but no the worst either.

From there we headed over to New Market. A huge market place with many dokans or booths or stalls or whatever you want to call them. Selling everything. Kitchen wares, clothes, books, toys, food.... here’s where you can find anything you might possibly need. We grabbed a snack at a food dokan and then went on a hunt for melamine dishes. That was something I was pretty determined I wanted to get here. There’s lots and lots of it here and it’s made here in Bangladesh so it’s quite cheap. A little over $1 a plate. Found some that will do. I was kind of disappointed that I didn’t pick up the stuff I had found that I really really like there in Khulna at a store. But that’s fine. I like this stuff too. Bought a few other things I wanted. Travis’ met us over there too. They had some things to buy and we had lunch together there. Food is cheap here. Many of the times we ate we paid probably less than $20 for all 11 of us to have a good meal. Sometimes a lot less than that. Our energy waned after lunch and it was getting hotter... so we went back to the flat. They dropped cherith and I off where we could walk to the jute factory. There’s a lot of jute grown here amd they make it into all sorts of things. Coasters, placemats, rugs, bags, purses, backpacks.... and it’s beautiful. I could hardly decide what to get. And it’s cheap... I spent $20 in there and bout several rugs, a backpack, a wallet, and a nice bag with a zippered top. Could have and will pry wish i would have bought more.

Some napped and I got all our purchases packed into our luggage. The men went and picked up pizza at Pizza Hut  and Daniels came over for pizza and fresh veggies with ranch. And watermelon. Our last day here in this country of Bangladesh.

These brown people, the green rice fields, the colorfully dressed women, the noise, the crowds...: it has all been wonderfully amd to hard to express how I feel about this country. Yes it’s crowded and noisy and somewhat dirty, but it has a way of getting inside you. And you can’t help but love it. It feels like the time here was way too short. But home is calling us back too. I missed my boys and it’s time to get the school children back in school. We will never regret learning to know the place Cherith has come to love and has made her home for the last couple years.
